Latest reports out of Africa point to drastic landmine clearance efforts in 2014. At least 1.4 million square metres of land were cleared in Angola’s Cunene province by de-mining actions of the Angolan Armed Forces, and a total of 3,472 landmines were discovered and destroyed in Algeria by the People’s National Army (ANP) along the eastern and western borders of the region. As of November 2014, more than 754,000 landmines have been destroyed in African regions still plagued by the horrors of militarization.
